Now, for the purpose of discussing about the management education in a particular state I got in my topic to discuss about the management education in ASSAM. Therefore, I would like to discuss about the management education in Assam.
As a student of Assam I think I know much about the colleges or institutes providing management education in our state i.e. in Assam. Assam, though it is not a well developed state in India but yet it is not very far from or not up to the standards like any other top management colleges in India but still they are able to produce good quality managers who are serving in the state as well as able to contribute towards the growth and development in the country. Some of the good colleges based on infrastructure, fee, faculty, research and placement etc. providing management education in Assam are:-
  1. Tezpur University, Tezpur.
  2. Gauahati University, Guwahati
  3. Assam institute of management, Guwahati
  4. Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh
  5. Girijananda chowdhury institute of management and technology, Guwahati
  6. North Eastern Regional Institute of Management, Guwahati
  7. Assam University, Silchar.

Now I will discuss accordingly about the good management institute/college in Assam:-
  1. Tezpur University:- This is a central University situated at Napaam, Tezpur , 200 km away from Guwahati, capital of Assam. Though Tezpur University was established in the year 1994 but the management department was established in the year 1995 and since then it is the best management college in Assam and 2nd best after IIM, Shillong in north-east.
They are till now are best in providing placement and also education in Assam. Their faculty members are also some of the famous personality in the region; apart from their permanent faculty they have also some of the visiting faculty from the entire country. Their fees structure is also less and infrastructure could be taken into account.

  1. Gauhati university: - This University was the first University established in                          Assam. Though this university was established in the year 1948 but they started their management education in the year 1978. And since then they are getting success in producing good quality managers to serve in the state as well as in the country. Their infrastructure and faculty members are good enough to provide quality education. Apart from their main goal they are also running or affiliating three colleges in entire Guwahati to provide management education to the student. The name of those affiliating colleges is: Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and technology, Guwahati Commerce College and Royal school of business.

  1. Assam institute of management, Guwahati:- The Assam Institute of Management (AIM) is the only State Government sponsored autonomous management institute in the country.  In 1988, the Government of Assam promoted this institute to propagate professional management in the north-eastern part of India.  The Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam is the ex-officio Chairman of the Institute.  Among others, the Director of IIM Calcutta is also the ex-officio member of the governing body.  PGDM programme of the institute is patterned after the IIMs.  Case studies, assignments, summer placement, project work, and group activities supplement the PGDM teaching.
They are also pioneer in the field of providing placement to the students in different regions of the country.

  1. Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh:-Dibrugarh University was set up in the year 1965 but their management centre which is called Centre for Management Studies (CMS) was established in the 25th November, 2002 and it started their first batch for management studies in the year 2003. Their infrastructure is very beautiful and most of the funds for developing their infrastructure are given by Oil India Limited, Duliajan. Their faculty members are also good enough and fees structure is up to the standard. They are also in the competition for producing good managers to serve the country.

  1. Girijananda chowdhury institute of management and technology, Guwahati: It is the first private institute affiliated to the Gauhati University. It is located away from the hustle and bustle of Guwahati city near Deepor Bill. Airport Road (Hathkhowapara, Azara). Though this college was first established in the year 2006 but they started their management education in the 2008 and since then they are able to provide good quality education as well as placement to their students in good and reputed organizations in the entire country. Their faculty members are very well educated and they have both permanent and visiting faculty. They are continuously organizing events and seminars to provide quality education from all the parts. Their fee structure as a private college is very less to their quality they are providing as compare to other private and good management colleges in the entire country.
  2. North Eastern Regional Institute of Management, Guwahati:- North Eastern Regional Institute of Management (NERIM) is a postgraduate college established in the year 1992 by the NERIM Educational Society. The Govt. of Assam and the Department of Technical Education initially extended its active support for the establishment of this institute with a view to promote Management and Computer Science Education in the North Eastern Region of the country. This was the first private management institute established in Assam and is affiliated by Dibrugarh University. They have a very well developed infrastructure facility as well as experienced faculty members. Though their fee structure is a bit higher as compare to other management institutes in Assam but still they are able to provide better jobs in the entire region. Initially this college was only providing MBA degree but now they are also proving other degrees like BBA, BCA, MCA, LLB etc. Since competition is growing day by day, therefore they have to think in their all the aspects for producing good managers likewise organising events and seminars, participating in various events organized by different colleges or institute.
  3. Assam University, Silchar:- The University was established on 21st January 1994 at Silchar, the headquarters of the Cachar, District of the heart of the Barak Valley in Southern Assam. Within 7 years of its existence, the University has established a permanent campus with 24 Departments and 3 Interdisciplinary centres such as Computer Centre, Women's Study Centre and Netaji Sibhash Bose Centre for Research and Studies in National Movement and National Integration. 8 schools administer the 24 Departments and are endowed with qualified staff. The University's catchment consists of the 5 districts of Southern Assam: Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, North Cachar Hills and Karbi Ablong. The university started their management education in the Department of Business Administration (DBA) under the School of Management Studies; Assam University started functioning in July 1997.                      The department is getting success in producing good managers and thus
They are able to fulfil their main objectives. They have a good infrastructure
Facility as well as faculty members.
